I agree with you that it should probably be a native speaker teaching it, but atleast they are making an effort.

I have met some northerners and shanghainese speakers to be quite fluent in the language. As long as someone has put in the time to learn it, I dont see a reason why they wouldnt be somewhat qualified to teach it.
